3D TV - the future of TV Entertainment

Do you remember when TV was just regular TV? Before High Def, Flatpanel, Plasma and Blue Ray for DVD Players? No? Most of the technology generation doesn't either.

However, how about the next evolution in television entertainment? The 3D TV for home use! 3D TV

Not too long ago, you saw people with shaded glasses watch the first attempts of movie studios to invoke the 3D movie generation and create 2D image with an added layer of depth perception - essentially, the 3D effect.

ESPN just announced that they will broadcast Football games in 3D - per ESPN's press release: ESPN will test its 3D production capabilities with a special telecast of a number of football games.
The production will be ESPN's first 3D telecast distributed to fans after more than two years of testing, supplying further research for ESPN as it continues to develop best practices for utilizing the technology in live game applications. It will provide ESPN the ability to evaluate workflow operations, 3D camera positioning, transmission changes and gauge fan reaction to a 3D telecast versus a 2D.

Interested? So, where can you get the new generation of TV's?

Currently the expected big players are working on releases of 3D TV sets:

Samsung, Sony, LG to name the biggest providers, are set to bring the first 3D TV units to your home, starting at $4000.
So, what's the future like for 3D TV?

According to a market research firm, DisplaySearch, the 3D display market is expected to grow from $902 million in 2008 to $22 billion in 2018. Specifically, the 3D TV market is expected to expand to a $17-billion market, with sales increasing from 200,000 units in 2009 to 64 million units 2018.

Obviously, early adopters will be the ones who experience the first challenges until this new technology has fully adapted to household use. However, while many will be waiting for flawless 3D TV sets, the few will have a blast watching everything in 3D - take your pick which side you'll be on.
